Mr. Fuzzy is our cat. But not a cat in a hat, a cat in a box.
Obviously he is not the only cat that loves boxes – it seems universal to the species.
Man, that cat loves boxes. And husband. He will curl up and cuddle with husband for hours, lovingly kneading husbands arm or chest. But he hates me.
Of course I am the one who feeds him and fills his bowl with water, facts he totally ignores. Or forgets, which isn’t really his fault. He has memory problems because he was rescued by eldest son from a car accident that crushed his skull and left him blind in one eye. He lived with son until they were expecting a baby and the mother-to-be was concerned about that disease found in cat litter boxes with a really long name that pregnant women have to worry about. So son gave him to us. He seems to like living on the farm, just not with me.
A few days ago, he followed me into the bathroom. Maybe he forgot that he hates me. Anyway, I sat down and noticed the toilet paper holder was empty, so I opened the bottom drawer on the sink vanity, where I keep the spare rolls, because there is not much worse than seeing the holder empty and having the spares in another room.
Mr. Fuzzy watched me (with his one good eye) open the drawer with great fascination.
What is this? You have a secret pull-out box that disappears into a bigger box and didn’t tell me? I must investigate!
He leapt into the drawer, wallowed his way in as deep as he could…and got stuck.
I tried to pull the drawer out but that pinched his head and he cried out. I tried to pull him out by his haunches and he growled at me. I eventually emptied the area under the sink and coaxed him out through that larger opening with tuna.
That taught him that the reward for getting stuck in the drawer is delicious tuna, so now he follows me in there every time and paws at the drawer.
Maybe if I coated my lap with tuna, he would finally come sit with me.
At least I know I am not the only woman who has a cat that doesn’t like women. My friend Amy has a similar story.
