Scream

This is me lately.Marti Scream
I messed up our taxes many years ago, resulting in an error that cost us thousands. We have been paying it off a little at a time, then out of the blue, the IRS decided to garnish husband’s wages for the balance. I took the whole mess to a CPA, and she helped out a great deal, even figured out how to fix some of my mistakes so we owed less money. She e-filed and there was supposed to be a large enough refund that IRS wouldn’t have to garnish husband’s wages. But then IRS sent a ton of money to the State of Missouri, which the state didn’t deserve, because her e-file had also corrected mistaken amount they claimed we owed them. Plus we got a bizarre letter from the Treasury Department, which was supposed to explain why they sent Missouri all the money they don’t deserve, but it said “See attachment for explanation” and there was no attachment! LOL

It even stumped the tax lady, and you know you’re in a real pickle when a CPA says, “Damn, I’ve never seen anything like this” LOL

Daughter uses my cell phone in the evenings once the free minutes start, as she has a friend in another state she talks to each evening. Day before yesterday, I picked the phone up and it was dead.  OK, I need to charge the battery, I thought. (Silly me, thinking it would be something so simple LOL) Plugged in the charger…nuttin. No lights, no little happy chiming sound. Took the phone up to place I bought it to replace battery. They put new battery in…nuttin.

“Looks like it’s broken,” I was told.

Swell.

Daughter says it worked fine for her, and denies knowing anything about anything ever LOL

Call phone company, explain phone phone dysfunction. They tell me to spend hundreds of dollars on replacement. I say, “I have insurance.” They say, “Oh, well then it is only $50.”

Double swell.

WordPress is totally screwing me over LOL

I have read the friggin’ codex until I am blue in the face and I still don’t understand it. Yesterday I had posted a message, then when I looked at it, I saw a misspelled word. So I went in to edit it. I changed the misspelled word, but the paragraphs had all run together, and the italic and bold were gone.

So I tried to fix that, and it all went to hell - sometimes whole paragraphs, sometimes just parts of sentences duplicated themselves LOL

So I went in to edit that, and all the formatting was screwed up again. It happened over and over until I deleted the whole damn thing and started over, but the evil was lurking in there somewhere and it did it again! After three hours of trying to post one simple message, I was pulling my hair out and did what I rarely do - I gave up.

So if this post has any misspelled words, forgive me. If I haven’t visited you in ages, forgive me. If I owe you money…Oh! Look over there! (Marti points off in the distance as a distraction, then scurries out the back door…..)

    Marti,

Multi-tasking pumpkin farmers deserve better than this… :)

I suggest you go to Typepad, which is stable, reliable and you can park your present domain, enterthelaughter.com, and use it as a pointer to your typepad domain which would be enterthelaughter.typepad.com.

I have used Typepad for three years and it has performed beautifully. My brief experience with Wordpress was singularly unimpressive.

Switch to Typepad and you will never look back.

Quite an impressive bio on your sidebar. You’re not jesting, right?

I was on blogger and now moveable type. Moveable type is more reliable but not as user friendly. I’m don’t have much tech-no-logic sense though, so I imagine they would all be a challenge for me.

Beneath all your pain you are pretty funny, Marti. Say hello, next time you’re in town.

    Marti,

I read something today and thought of you. Apparently, there is something buggy between Yahoo and WordPress. I SWEAR WordPress is really easy to navigate and get around in but the problems you have been having have really stumped me. Read Leanne’s “How to Leave Blogger” and see if this helps. http://intricateart.com/blog/archives/2006/04/20/how-to-leave-blogger/

Honestly hon, maybe you can move your domain to another server. Leanne also recommends where to go and easily implement WordPress. Seriously, it sounds like you’re not the only one having problems with Yahoo hosting and WordPress. I hope this helps! Please hang in there and give WordPress another chance!

    ((hugs))

my parents made a boo-boo once on their taxes quite a few years back and i think this year they finally finished paying for their mistakes. Good luck with it all. I am sure it will all work out in the end. And hey, cell phones are strange little things. I just had to replace mine b/c it kept deleting some of my stored numbers. then some of them would come back, but not all of them. When i got the new phone and put the new chip in, suddenly i had all of em. but none of the stuff i had downloaded. Go figure. This technology is supposed to make our lives easier and sometimes it just stresses us out worse. good luck with it all. and stop worrying about misspelled words for now, we dont care.

I hate tax time even without problems. I get anxious even when no problems are anticipated. I just do. Hope it works out for you with taxes & with Wordpad.

Wow, you’re having quite a streak of “luck”, aren’t you. I’ve been coming in periodically, but not commenting. I guess you can say I’ve been “lurking”. :)

Glad you stopped by to say “hi”. I’m on Pivot for my blog and I like it. Every now and then I have a little trouble, but it’s not too complicated…yet.

I’ve also heard good things about Typepad.

taxes suck. I wish we’d just switch to a sales tax and then the IRS would go out of business — we’d end up paying less after they lay off most of the staff. oh and then the CPA’s would be out on the street and stealing fruit from grocery carts and so we’d need more local cops on the street, so maybe I haven’t really solved anything after all.

I’m totally sympathetic with the blog software, but since I’ve just stuck with Blogger I’ll commiserate from a distance. I’ve switched out the commenting piece, which has made me much happier. that was the biggest thing I hated about Blogger anyway, other than the downtime, which is only sporadic anymore.

Wp has been ok with me, save for the down day Easter Sunday.
Is your blog hosted on another server?
I have a wordpress.com account and am finding that the flexibility is a bit less than what I thought it would be. Turns out that’s not such a bad thing. Less futzing around for me.
As far as the “rich text editor” goes, if you open a “write” post and don’t see it, press Control/F5 key and it should appear. That’s how it works with a .com blog anyway.
As far as the IRS is concerned…oh, I’m not even going to go there. Somebody is getting filthy rich and it ain’t me.

    Hi, Marti!

In regard to your formatting problems, these are caused by the Rich Text Editor. Go to your User Profile, scroll down and deselect the checked box that says “Use Rich Text Editor.” That should clear up the text formatting problems. Email me if it doesn’t work, or if you have any other questions.
